yeah, "safety"

Peter sent me this.  Yeah, I know all about "crime prevention."

  1. Where is this place?! I'll be sure to avoid it at all costs!

  2. I like this one, because, as a security expert, "We're going to take your picture without your permission and share it with third parties," really *does* reek to me of "crime prevention" rather than actual *crime prevention*.

  3. Yes, definitely a euphemism for "We're recording you because we're creepy voyeurs, and so that if you show any skin, so we can sell it as soft-core pornography." I'm convinced that's what they do with the security tapes from fitting rooms.

  4. And to think, I've been calling it "porn" all these years.

  5. I vote "user is unaware of boldface or italic."

I have often seen quotes used as an emphasis marker with no awareness of their "secondary" usage.

Seriously, ignorance is a much more likely culprit here, though it would be awesome if it was deliberate.

  6. I got here from Boing Boing and I have to say that you totally "stole" my idea for a blog. Or maybe you were just not as "lazy" as me and actually did something with this awesomely brilliant idea!! Do you take submissions? Chicago is ripe with poorly punctuated signs, particularly advertising "Sales" in store windows. You are brilliant!

  7. I also got here via BoingBoing and I have to say: this picture is pure gold!

I love taking pics of small things in the street, signs and stuff; but this one is full of unintended irony... priceless!

  8. CDJ: thanks, submission instructions are in the sidebar. I have been writing this blog since 2005. It's pretty crazy.
