"firm": a guy with a truck


Ben regularly passes this truck in New Haven. I suppose that restoration is actually quite soft...

Maybe it's the subcontracts that are "firm" as opposed to firm. Maybe they're written so crummily (or maybe craftily) that the subcontractor has no contractual (or subcontractual) obligations.

they're a "firm" as in "my brother has a pickup, so I figured I'd do some roofing on the side."
