sink-like bit of counter

This is at the break room where Alan works. Perhaps they are trying to distinguish between the verb and the noun. Maybe nobody actually uses the sink, so it's not functional and therefore a "sink". In which case, those quotation marks seem... disrespectful.

As we all bow down and offer our respect to the great "Sink," let us remember not to toss straws in it. Ommmmmm...

Yeah, I'm wondering about the straws. Why are straws a particularly troublesome item here? To anthropomorphize, does the "sink" just sit there thinking, "Anything but straws"?

Hello Sink!

(Saluting the "sink") Perhaps the straws are really those little stirry-straws for coffee. The knuckleheads where I work keep throwing them down the sink drain, too, and we're not "allowed" (giggle) to post signage that may hurt their little tiny feelings. Still lovin' this site!
