I think it is, indeed, punctuation-related. Why else would there be quotes around a reference to a period while said reference is inside an ellipse?
I feel like it's related to menstruation. Really, that's already euphemistic.
Have a "happy" period.
"Period stuff" is simply an informal way to talk about stuff from different periods in history. The marks were acceptable. But yeah, it could be worded better.
but, deckardcanine, isn't that what antiques are? So why did it say Antiques "&"?
The switch to a (relatively) goofy font is a nice touch...sort of a verbal rim shot.
My immediate connection was also with menstruation. Lime some stodgy old guy who's afraid to say the word 'tampon'. 'Oh, honey, run on in and get your...uh..."period stuff". I'll be out here waiting."
