I guess the surprise is for the person you give the gift card to when you say it has $100 on it and it doesn't? Or when it inevitably gets lost with $20 left (which the store is probably counting on). Thanks, Kris!
If I had a $100 gift card, I would use it to buy $10 of merchandise and another $100 gift card (for $89.99). I guess that leaves a balance of a penny, but you can keep the change.
Please send your submissions via email to bethanykeeley (at) gmail.com. I look at them all, but it might take a while to get to yours -- sorry! I love you all, but I only have so much energy in a day.
If you want your picture to make the blog DO NOT @tweet them, or leave them in a comment. I need them all in the same place. Make sure your emails are easily distinguishable from spam or viruses (I use gmail web interface, so images get previews).
I don't usually post the following: newspaper headlines, personal email, craigslist postings, unprofessional websites. I also tend to not crosspost things from other blogs, since I have so much unique material waiting for me to get to it.
Things I see a lot: silica gel "do not eat"; hair dryer labels; inside the bus "do not drill"; Wal-mart sign about IDs; coffee machine with "2" cup sizes; employees must "wash hands"; that failblog post.

My man Dan, sounds like a plan!
I'd hate to fix your math but wait no won't' $100 - $89.99 = $10.01 + 10% tax of $8.99 you'd save $1.02.
I know math is evil.
@Ed, but on the $100.oo a 10% tax (where do YOU live?) would be %110.oo
