Book Giveaway Winner

Congratulations to K La who won the book giveaway!

She wrote in her comment, "My biggest qualm is 'a lot' is two words, not one. The best is a missing comma where one is so very needed. "

I encourage the rest of you to consider buying your own copy of Mignon's book - it's fun and educational! And thanks SO VERY much to Macmillan for providing me with this giveaway! I hope you all had an excellent grammar day.

Well, this issue is a moot point considering the use of "a lot" instead of "many" or "much" is considered improper English. It isn't "I read a lot of books this summer." but "I read MANY books this summer."

However, "a lot" can be used if you literally read a LOT of books (as in a group of books bought at once).

I can say I have read 'a lot' in my life time but that is all my opinion. Someone else may say "that is not a lot of books" ..;-)
