Since #2000 passed without fanfare... congratulations on 2001! That makes at least 4002 total unnecessary quotation marks, or 8004 total inverted commas (two per quotation mark).
james - you're omitting all the multiple quotation marks, like today, and the hanging quotation marks we also get frequently. maybe you should go count :-P
