"look wide"

Elwyn spotted this in Queenscliff, Australia. I don't get it at all, but apparently that cross-eyed person is "looking wide" or something...

Maybe when you come here for service, you're supposed to try to wear an outfit that makes you look fatter, or wider, than you really are. Lol! :)

I'm totally lurking on this blog because, really, what more is there to say? But I'm a HUGE fan. Thanks for my daily laugh.

look wide is a motto for some organization. Like "be prepared" for the boy scouts. I forget which organization.

"Look Wide" is the Venturer Scout motto in Austalia. (Ages 14-18) It can mean to keep your eye out "for service" (that is, helping other people) or to dream big.

The painting may look odd because it was probably painted by a fifteen year-old :P

(This is coming from a Queen's Scout, who has just linked from Venturers to Rovers)

Now that I look back on the photo,
"Be prepared" "Look wide" and "For service" are 3 separate scouting quotes...
So maybe it's not that inappropriate, just that people outside the scouting movement won't get it...
