Matt writes, "By 'safety first' we really mean high prices and huge profits first, safety a distant second." In other news, that thumbs-up graphic is groovy.
to me, quotes used incorrectly always carry some sense of sarcasm. kind of like a wink, wink, nudge, nudge kind of thing. the thumbs-up only adds to the sarcasm. yes, i'm bitter.
I could forgive the quotation marks as part of some company slogan. But that thumb has me picturing some Enzyte-type of character with a hearty wink, nod, and grin. No, I'm not bitter.
Please send your submissions via email to bethanykeeley (at) gmail.com. I look at them all, but it might take a while to get to yours -- sorry! I love you all, but I only have so much energy in a day.
If you want your picture to make the blog DO NOT @tweet them, or leave them in a comment. I need them all in the same place. Make sure your emails are easily distinguishable from spam or viruses (I use gmail web interface, so images get previews).
I don't usually post the following: newspaper headlines, personal email, craigslist postings, unprofessional websites. I also tend to not crosspost things from other blogs, since I have so much unique material waiting for me to get to it.
Things I see a lot: silica gel "do not eat"; hair dryer labels; inside the bus "do not drill"; Wal-mart sign about IDs; coffee machine with "2" cup sizes; employees must "wash hands"; that failblog post.

if you're gonna do the enthusiastic thumbs up thing, "the freshmaker!" is a much better slogan.
No, the thumbs-up thing is there to help us imagine what could happen to the hand of some unfortunate passerby of the unattended pump in question.

oh, as in that might be the only finger you have left if you don't comply?
I definitely have to agree that the thumbs-up is almost as good as a wink for adding to the sense that the whole thing is meant to be sarcastic.
