actually a front for the mob

Lindsey in Texas acknowledges that these are probably supposed to be rays of light, but it sure does look like quotation marks. Maybe they are trying to communicate that if you come in the church, you won't actually be crucified. It's just a symbol, folks.

This is completely the most bizarre misuse of quotation marks--or "shiny rays" to signify awesomeness--I've ever seen.

Brilliant.

This one wins.

Maybe it's a religious organization devoted to worship of the letter "t."

came across your site from another blog (http://www.walrusmagazine.com/blogs/2008/02/15/lets-get-low-low-low/) and it took me a while to figure out the connection between this site and her link here, later realizing that it was written in an appreciative nature... but anyway, i didn't realize that people could use the quotation marks so unnecessarily until i came across your blog... thanks for pointing these out!

The new symbol for the Unitarian Church??
I'm sure it's sacrilege, but I want to see someone cross themselves, then add air quotes...

Bethany- definitely hall of fame material. You know it's funny when everyone is cracking up but nobody can think of a joke worthy enough to post.

I would occasionally see marks like this, complete with alleged quotation marks, scrawled on various places in or near the New York City subway.
