Jon spotted this one in Decatur IL. I like the opening ' and closing ". And that 'Put a lid on it!" is like an office-wide slogan or something, like "Take a bite out of crime".
Is there an '80s show with a lid on it"? That's the kind of thing that immediately springs to mind. Like they're trying to be trendy... 20 years too late.
Perhaps it means, "We'll look the other way if you take a cup, but please be secretive about it." If that's the case, it's a clever double meaning, and the quotes are appropriate.
Please send your submissions via email to bethanykeeley (at) gmail.com. I look at them all, but it might take a while to get to yours -- sorry! I love you all, but I only have so much energy in a day.
If you want your picture to make the blog DO NOT @tweet them, or leave them in a comment. I need them all in the same place. Make sure your emails are easily distinguishable from spam or viruses (I use gmail web interface, so images get previews).
I don't usually post the following: newspaper headlines, personal email, craigslist postings, unprofessional websites. I also tend to not crosspost things from other blogs, since I have so much unique material waiting for me to get to it.
Things I see a lot: silica gel "do not eat"; hair dryer labels; inside the bus "do not drill"; Wal-mart sign about IDs; coffee machine with "2" cup sizes; employees must "wash hands"; that failblog post.

Maybe they're quoting the Squirrel Nut Zippers song?

And what is a coffee/beverage? It's like Linens & Things!
I don't know about you, but I love a cup of beverage to start the day.

What is "N THE WORL" supposed to be?
"n the worl" is short for "in the world". As in, if you take a cup out of the breakroom and in the world...
I like to imagine everyone tweaked out of their minds on breakroom coffee screaming like banshees. "Put a lid on it!"
i'd like to think it's a ticker tape questioning the whereabouts of carmen sandiego.
