"etc"

Again with the bathrooms. Perhaps Fran is putting "please" in quotation marks because she doesn't want to be polite to these people who leave dirty towels... on places besides the floor. Not to mention whatever else is included in "etc". Fran might regret that request. Andrew spotted this one in Oregon.

Is there any need to discuss what "etc." might be a euphemism for? I think not...

"etc" means porn. Oh how Fran hates when the porn gets left around.

At least Fran didn't write "ect."
That one really fries my beans.
Not to mention "mischievious."

^ I didn't realize people wrote mischievous that way, I thought it was just a pronunciation thing. I spent a year at college in Cleveland and it used to drive me crazy. The first time I heard it was from a professor and I was like "and this is the person in charge of my education?" until I realized it was everyone.

I also spent a whole literature class wondering what the "plat" of a book was until I figured out that it's just the Midwestern pronunciation of "plot."

Ohio is not in the midwest but thanks for going to college and learning geography.

anon: I have had this argument with grad students. Exactly what region do you propose that Ohio is in? If you assume "Great Lakes States" qualifies as a region, then fine. But let's not pretend these region names are so clearly codified.

Get out your map of the continental U.S.
Draw a line through the center.
Which side does Ohio fall on?
East or West of that line?

Ohio is 100% unequivocally in the Midwest, both in geography and mindset (the latter being probably more important)

I actually have taken Geography and even discussed vernacular regions. We specifically looked at several maps done by groups of different ages on their personal definition of "The Midwest." Guess which state showed up on every single one of them?
